Unicom Chemist presented some psychotropic medications to the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital in the Greater Accra Region. These medications were presented to support the facility in caring for its vulnerable patients.
The decision to support Pantang Psychiatric Hospital as part of its CSR is to contribute its quota to tackling the problems that plague the mental health sector.
Mental Health has become an issue of prime concern to Ghanaians. This is because it is estimated that 2.7 million Ghanaians representing 10 percent of the population are suffering from mentally related illnesses. Moreover, the sector has been reeling from the effects of neglect due to inadequate support for mental health facilities in the country, a situation that is disturbing, the company said.
Despite some support for institutions within the mental health sector, it is important for more corporate entities to extend their support to them through various initiatives to ensure that the mental health delivery system within the country runs efficiently.
According to the CEO of Unicom Chemist Limited, corporate social responsibility forms an integral part of their operations.
