In a bid to address the ongoing risk posed by high-speed traffic near Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital, staff members from the facility in the Akuapem North Municipality gathered today, November 1, for a peaceful protest. They are demanding urgent action after several collisions have tragically taken the lives of patients and hospital staff on the adjacent road.
This movement follows the recent death of a registered nurse who was fatally hit by a speeding vehicle on Wednesday while leaving her shift. Since May 2024, over six fatalities have been recorded, mostly involving patients visiting the hospital and, increasingly, hospital staff members.
Led by Bengalaxy Elorm Attipoe, the protest’s convenor and spokesperson, hospital staff assembled at 9:00 AM, calling for modern speed ramps to be installed along this dangerous stretch. The demonstration, expected to last two hours, aims to raise awareness within the community and urge authorities to address this preventable hazard.
“We are out here today to make it known that our safety is at risk,” Attipoe stated. “Our colleague, who was just trying to get home, should not have lost her life due to speeding. We’re asking for a modernized speed ramp to ensure such incidents don’t happen again.”
Staff members and residents alike hope the protest will prompt swift action from municipal leaders to implement necessary safety measures and prevent further tragedy.
